Shelby Rite conducts lawful, unhurried marriage ceremonies on the shores and lakes of Moreton. Ceremonies are led by celebrant Isidro Velasquez, who has never once rushed a vow and does not intend to start.
The place
Shallow green water, a long sand spit, and the slow rust of the wrecks. Guests are asked to remove shoes and, where possible, opinions.
The ceremony
Thirty-one minutes. Legally complete at minute nineteen; the remainder is atmosphere, which we consider part of the service.
The party
A singer, a live act, and a flower girl, each available separately. Each has been briefed. Briefings are not binding.
On the island
The Romance of Moreton Island
At golden hour the dunes turn the colour of a very expensive candle. Couples run across them barefoot, looking back over one shoulder like they're in an ad. They are not in an ad. The island just does that to you.
